I Will Let It Be
“there are things we need to understand on earth that we cannot understand in spirit. that's why we're here.”
—Samia Abou-Samra
I was never that good
at living in my body
I've always remembered
too distinctly
too hazily
a reality that could much better
encompass me
I was that kid in grade nine
psychology, who asked:
“what if this is about what happened
in a past life?”
a chorus of classmates
groaning around me
I was the one who left you
behind, to live in the clouds
who dishonoured our partnership
with my lack of respect
for the possibility of failure
I was the one who didn't want
to be here
I didn't
want to be
here
but now I am
different after death
now I think maybe
there are things I need to understand on earth
that I couldn't understand in spirit
what those answers are
I don't know
and I don't need
to know
what I will do is let it be revealed
unravelled
remembered
broken down
pieced together
blown apart
given back
protected by community
adored by the masses
witnessed in intimacy
howling from my broken heart
dug out like the weeds
spoken by the wound
sung by the SOLLUS
retching from my hands
landing safely in my skin
quiet like sunbeams
pouring like heavy rain
rooting in the grandmother tree
reunited with the cherry blossoms
and sixty tulips
testament from the flock
and their flawless improvised choreography
I will let it be
freedom
like unconditional trust
below wide open skies
revealed, unravelled
remembered
