Biography
Sharrae is a transdisciplinary artist of Xamaycan descent. Her journey into the realm of the ancestors has opened up roads of understanding the power and tools of compassion, love and vulnerability. Her work as a facilitator has brought her to engaging communities of African descent, multi-ancestral communities, youth, queer and neurodiverse folks in work that centers authentic embodiment. She has had the honour of being an artist in residence d'bi young anitafrika's Watah School in 2014, Transdisciplinary Artist Program. As an emerging filmmaker her work explores the intersections of science fiction, identity, and healing. Most recently she was a graduate of InterPlay's Art and Social Change for Millennial Artists and Activists in Oakland, California. "Our ancestors have already spilt their blood, it's time for something different.
Sharrae is passionate about creating opportunities rooted in play, expression, creativity and the imagination, whereby we can tune into our multi-dimensional selves, without judgement. I believe that it is through connecting to organic technologies like song, dance and storytelling that we are able to give voice to what can often times feel difficult to express, because our everyday realities and use of language doesn’t give room for. In my own life, it is when I find it hard to communicate through simple speech, that these sacred technologies provide me with clarity and balance.
