UMAWIT | Queer Earth

  • Pia Bouman School for Ballet and Creative Movement 25 Sterling Rd, Unit 103 Toronto, ON M6R 2B2 Canada (map)

Ticket Release October 7th 2023

UMAWIT (Queer Earth) is a music-driven theatre production set in a dystopian near-future when the carbon density in the atmosphere has caused the unanticipated impact of distorting soundwaves.

Songs are becoming rare and are kept at home in soundpods by songkeepers or gatekept in government laboratories. Sarili, a young song-keeper, hears songs all the time. While Sarili is not sure of her lineage as she was born under mysterious conditions, her songs becomes clues to her roots, roles and responsibilities to/with the past, present, and future.

In a parallel narrative we meet Kai, a government scientist obsessed with deciphering the formula to resurrect the dead through song. As we unravel the journey that inspires him to work for the government, the institution he once opposed, we are invited to witness a love story that weaves into the life and story of Sarili
